Merov Linden has integrated Snowstorm Second Life Viewer with Kinect.

This is great news for virtual worlds.   Every since I first saw Project Natal (Kinect) I have been fascinated by the face recognition and the ability of the camera to recognize movements.  Linden Lab engineer, Merov Linden (Phillippe Bossut, who once headed Project Natal - now known as Kinect), has been able to integrate Snowstorm Second Life Viewer with Kinect.

The Second Life economy continues to be steady, with nearly all key measures staying within a narrow range of just a few percentage points up or down over the last year. The largest changes compared to last year's Q3 were an increase of 7.2% in World Size, a decline of 11% in User Hours, and a 115% increase in Web Merchandise Sales Volume.

Edmonton Commerce is now in Second Life

The City of Edmonton has launched itself in Second Life.  The island includes many landmarks for avatars to visit along with city businesses.  The city's Chief Information Officer announced on Thursday October 21st that it was an excellent tool for tourism and economic development.

There are video screens and objects that link to websites.  NAIT has already entered Second Life with a virtual campus for students allowing groups to link and work together real time.

The Second Life economy remained stable in the second quarter of 2010, despite one-time events that affected a number of metrics. The Second Life economy kicked off 2010 with strength in many key indicators in Q1.       

  • User-to-User Transactions totaled US$160 million, a 30% increase year-to-year and an all-time high

Linden Lab announces launch of Linden Home for all premium members - February 17, 2010

Several thousand Premium members have been testing Linden Home.  The feedback has been very positive.  Testers told Linden Lab that they had enjoyable experiences and valued it highly.  Based on feedback LL (Linden Lab) will be making some changes before the launch and over time will encorporate some of the bigger ideas.
