IBM is the first company to offer proof that working in virtual worlds works.  in February of 2009 Linden Labs released a joint study entitled, "How Meeting in Second Life Transformed IBM's Technology Elite Into Virtual World Believers." It offers information of two IBM Academy of Technology events that were held inworld that were not only successful, but also saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in meeting and travel costs.

Link to Linden Lab's Case Study for Intel's Embedded Conference in Second Life

IBM has been the only company to post a case study on meeting savings on  in Second Life.  This case study shows shifting a real life conference to a virtual world conference saved Intel 265,000 of their 300,000 budget (savings from air travel is not included in this amount).
